The SRCS Learning Spaces thirteen-week Re-engagement Program consists of three distinct phases;
INDUCTION, INTENSIVE, and RE-ENGAGEMENT.
Information gathering in base schools (2 weeks)
For the two-week Induction Phase, students remain in their current mainstream setting. Our staff communicate with and visit schools to gather information and carry out observations relating to students’ barriers to engagement as well as their strengths and recent experiences of success in their current mainstream settings.
Students onsite at Learning Spaces (8 weeks)
During the Intensive Phase, students attend one of two Learning Spaces, located in Brunswick and Coburg full-time for eight school weeks (not inclusive of school holiday periods). Based on the information gathered during the Induction Phase, our staff undertake group and individual interventions, providing students with a skillset to re-engage with education.
Students return to base schools (3 weeks)
Re-engagement meetings with the student and school leadership are undertaken, during which recommendations are made and their application within a mainstream setting are discussed. Explicit, specific interventions the school will undertake are negotiated and then distributed to teachers and educational support staff. Learning Spaces staff facilitate and monitor this process, providing timely support and feedback to school staff and returning students.
